For it seems Regina had spent Thanksgiving Week diligently searching through both her garage and her storage unit until she finally found her original Faerie wings. All that remained to complete her Aviana costume were just a few simple accessories: footwear -- a pair of boots, shoes or slippers -- among them. Since that Tuesday was my usual day off, we decided to hit the malls together in our "Quest For Aviana's Boots". Let me tell you, finding footwear for a White Faerie during the Christmas Shopping Season in Houston proved a whole LOT harder than you can even imagine!!! Sure, there were plenty of white boots available -- so long as Regina didn't mind having her toes crushed together -- and she didn't plan to do any walking at faire! I couldn't believe that footwear designers could actually produce a boot so completely unwearable, yet still expect it to sell! Ye Godz, but it seemed every major department store on the North Side was carrying that particular style of boot... and nothing else!!! For eight solid hours we went from mall to mall to mall, searching department stores and shoe shops high and low for Faerie footwear. NOTHING! Night fell, but we kept looking. 9pm arrived. We were tired, hungry and getting grumpy. In final desperation, we turned to Wal-Mart -- and found EVERYTHING Regina needed to complete Aviana, including a low pair of dainty white slippers which just seemed to have "White Faerie" written all over them!!!
Needless to say, we were in a triumphant mood thereafter! So even before we parted company that night, we'd made our plans for a quick getaway on Friday. Only three more days, then -- LOUISIANA, HERE WE COME!!!
